Welcome

For 63 years, Camp Tawingo has been a summer oasis for thousands of campers to enjoy the fun and freedom of old-fashioned, unplugged, childhood play. Guided by compassionate, fun, and capable Counsellors, no devices means that campers spend their time and energy connecting to one another, the staff, and nature.

At Camp Tawingo we are grateful to be able to work and play on the land that belonged to, has been inhabited by, and been in the care of generations of Indigenous peoples.

We specifically want to acknowledge the Anishinaabeg peoples, whose ancestral and unceded territory includes the land which Camp Tawingo occupies. The Anishnaabeg include the Ojibwe/Chippewa, Odawa, and Pottawatomi nations, collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy. We also want to recognize the inclusion of the Haudenosaunee as later stewards of this territory. This unceded land is covered by the Lake Simcoe Treaty 16 and the J. Collins land purchase.

We recognize the historic connections and contributions of Indigenous peoples to this land, and we commit ourselves to continually honour the spirit of reconciliation with all First Nation, Métis, and Inuit peoples of Turtle Island.
