News about our beloved cedar-strip canoes…

Our iconic yellow and blue Tawingo canoes have carried thousands of campers and staff to their Turtle, Fox, and Eagle Crests, along the path from Birch Beach to Red Rec for every Ray Marinko Relay, across Lake Vernon and into Fairy and Mary Lakes, as well as, the other way, into Fox and Buck Lakes, along the French and Magnetawan Rivers, over the lakes and rivers of Haliburton, Algonquin and Massassauga Parks, and the Kipawa Forest Reserve...as well as to and through a few places beyond.

Many of our 68 boats have been part of our fleet from the very early years. They have remained in the shape they are in thanks to the extreme care of campers and staff over 60 plus summers, as well as the careful sanding and painting done by countless Spring Staffs…and, in no small part, thanks to the craftsmanship of Billy and Albert Maw.

Now, in 2024, we are finding that an overhaul is needed to bring our fleet back to the pristine place we would like it to be...so that it may support another 60 years of paddling and portaging.

How would you like to own a piece of Tawingo history, while knowing you have helped restore parts of our fleet to the quality that Tawingo is known for? "Paddle on", you say! Okay, here's how you can keep us on even "keel":

  1. Purchase a Tawingo canoe - for the price of a donation to our restoration program! This offer is set aside for those boats we believe would present too much of a financial burden for us to have restored. To be sure, they are still restorable. YOU may choose to restore them...or simply have them for whatever other purpose you wish. First come first serve!

  2. Donate half the average fee  (~$1200)  to restore one boat from among the several we are restoring, knowing that by way of thanks, we will name the boat after you or your family...placing it alongside the likes of the, "Kilby Jane"!

If either of these two initiatives interest you please click here and we will get the ball rolling...er, the j-stroke stroking!

Canoe imagine?!? A Tawingo canoe in your own personal fleet...or alternatively, one named after you in our fleet?!?  Don't let us "thwart" you, contact Camp today!
