Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who can attend Day Camp?
A: Children ages 6 to 12 years old. Children who are 5 years old and entering Grade One in September, may apply.
Q: How are campers grouped?
A: Campers are placed in groups based on their ages. Siblings/family members/friends of different ages who are placed in different groups because of their age differences will have LOTS of opportunities to spend time together during the day.
Q: What is the Camper:Counsellor ratio?
A: Camper groups may include 5 - 10 campers and one Counsellor. The Day Camp Director and several leaders-in-training are always on hand for support.
Q: What activities are the Day Camp campers involved in?
A: The full facilities of Camp Tawingo are made available to our Day Camp campers. Activities may include: canoeing; swimming; kayaking, hiking; drama and music; large and small group games; arts and crafts; pioneer activities, camping skills, cookouts, indoor games, books, board and card games, mini-putt, archery, and every other sport you can imagine.
Q: Are swimming lessons offered?
A: Swimming lessons are not part of the program, but campers have daily opportunities to swim and improve their skills.
Q: Do Day Camp campers participate in programs with the Overnight campers?
A: Day Camp campers and Overnight campers are on different schedules. Although they may see each other briefly, they are regularly not in the same areas of camp at the same time.
Q: When does Day Camp start and end each day?
A: The Day Camp program starts at 9:00 am and ends at 4:45 pm, Monday to Friday of each week offered. (This applies to Week E as well, which begins on a Statutory Holiday - August 7.)
Q: Are children required to bring lunch or Is It included?
A: Camp Tawingo provides a lunch and two snacks to every camper every day and these are included in the weekly Day Camp fee. For safety reasons, we ask that no food be brought to Camp by our Day Camp Campers.
Q: Is there transportation available?
A: Yes. A school bus or Camp vehicle can provide transportation to and from Camp Tawingo. Campers are picked up and dropped off in the parking lot of the Huntsville Royal Canadian Legion on Veterans Way for an extra fee. Campers are picked up at 8:30 am and dropped off at 5:00 pm each day.
